94 Wine Advocate – Delamotte’s just-released 2014 Blanc de Blancs has turned out very well indeed, opening in the glass with scents of citrus zest, crisp orchard fruit, fresh bread and wet stones. Medium to full-bodied, chiseled and incisive, with excellent depth at the core, racy acids and a chalky finish, this isn’t as muscular as the 2008 or 2012, but it has real cut and persistence and should age very gracefully indeed.
Its pale gold color, glinting with emerald, illuminates the fine necklace of bubbles rising to the surface of the disc in the glass. On the nose, the wine’s noble origins are unmistakable in the energy of its bouquet: pure, direct and deep, a strong personality. Its lively attack, palate freshness and mouth-watering minerality are a delight. But it doesn’t end there. The Epicurean will appreciate the supple fruit and notes of brioche that explode, in a dreamy finish.
Delamotte was founded in Reims in 1760 by vineyard owner François Delamotte, a vineyard owner. At more than 250 years old, it is the fifth oldest house in Champagne. In 1988, the House of Delamotte joined forces with the still enigmatic Champagne Salon under the umbrella of the parent company, Laurent-Perrier.
From Cramant to Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, through Avize and Oger but also Chouilly and Oiry: all are found in the Côte des Blancs. Its location is one of Delamotte’s richest assets. The chalky soil, the flora and the sloping vineyards give the grapes their exceptional character, delivering delicate, consistent champagnes. Championing this exceptional terroir, drawing the best from it while maintaining absolute respect for the vines and the environment – that’s what Delamotte is all about.
