90 John Gilman – As brilliant as the white wines are every year at Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard, I always get excited to taste their new red wines as well, as they probably make as fine a set of red Chassagnes as can be found in the commune. All of the 2021 reds were still in barrel in mid-December and showing beautifully, including this very serious AC bottling that offers up scents of red berries, cherries, bonfire, gamebird, a lovely base of dark soil tones and just a hint of oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and nicely tangy, with a good core, fine soil signature and a long, suavely tannic finish. Fine juice.
