The estate of Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio has a long and illustrious history in Piemonte, and is unequivocally one of the greatest Barolo producers. This traditionally-styled winery is now run by Mauro Mascarello, who is the fourth generation of the family to head the domaine. The estate’s origins date back to the mid-1800s, when Giuseppe Mascarello purchased of his own vineyards and cellars in 1881.
The Monprivato cru is only bottled – with a numbered label – in outstanding and excellent vintages. It’s complex, nuanced, elegant, balanced, powerful with great detail and precision and the stuffing to last for decades. Full bodied with moderate acidity and good grip. The evolving palate presents flavors of cherry, strawberry, leather, tar, tobacco, oak, and flowers. Think medium rare prime rib or venison.
